David Futcher has demonstrated a commitment to the betterment of our community in his business life, through participation in volunteer opportunities, and through his government service.
David began his professional career in Cowlitz County in 1993 as an accountant with a local Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm. In 2000, he became an owner in the firm at the age of 28, and bought out his partner in 2001. In 2004, the firm was merged with that of Jerri Henry, and in 2015 with Chace & Spurgeon, and the Futcher Group was formed. The firm is located in west Kelso, where David provides accounting, consulting and tax services to area businesses and their owners.
David’s involvement with his clients and his many volunteer positions have given him insight into the issues that affect the citizens of Kelso. He is a two-time past president and member of the Kelso Rotary Club for more than 20 years. He has also volunteered with the Kelso-Longview Chamber of Commerce, where he spent several years monitoring the budget process of the City of Kelso on the Chamber’s behalf. David’s government experience was enhanced by nearly eight years on the Longview Downtown Parking Committee. As a council member, he has been a member of the board of the Cowlitz Economic Development Council and the Cowlitz Transit Authority, and currently serves on the Southwest Washington Regional Airport operating board. He’s also one of a small number of area members of Mensa International
Originally appointed to the Kelso City Council in January 2005, David was re-elected in the 2005 fall election to fill an unexpired term, and to full 4-year terms in 2007 and 2011. David was chosen by the council to serve as mayor in 2008, and served in that role for ten years. He has taken a leading role on the council on issues related to economic development, the city’s responsiveness to citizens, and technology. David has worked to strengthen the communication between the council and those they represent, using blogs, a Facebook page and monthly articles in the Chamber of Commerce newsletter.
David also has emphasized the need to provide park and recreational facilities for Kelso youth. Even before his city council involvement, David took a leading role in the development of Kelso’s Catlin Rotary Spray Park. He was also a key participant in the process of creating a skateboard park in the city.
David received his B.S.B.A. in Accounting from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1992. He was born and raised in the southeastern US, including stints in Georgia, Louisiana, Florida and Mississippi as a child. In 1993, David moved to Cowlitz County and married his wife, Valorie. They have two sons, Andruw and Greg.
